Family advocates and gay activists in Maine are gearing up for a legislative battle over gay "marriage," The Associated Press reported.

The pro-gay group Equality Maine reportedly has collected more than 33,000 signatures to be sent to lawmakers as a show of support for same-sex "marriage."

Michael Heath, executive director of the Maine Family Policy Council, said it won't be that easy.

"We will continue, as we have since this all started decades ago, to object to this with every resource that we can,” he said.
